The conflict in "Dope Sick" is definitely a self conflict with Lil J having so many problems to deal with in life. Living with his drug addicted mother and not having his father around is one of the conflicts he deals with. Trying to make money he decides to drug deal with his friend Rico , but one bad deal with an under cover cop now dead has him hiding in an apartment building where he meets a man named Kelly. The police are looking for him and he has accepted the fact his life is over. Already been to jail once in Houston for attempting to rob a convenience store he is convinced he will be returning. With his girlfriend Lauryn clueless on what's going on , and Lil J not being able to see his kid he is convinced that sooner or later Lauryn is just going to walk out of his life. After telling Kelly everything, saying that if there was one thing he could change it would be the drug deal, Kelly rushes out the front door of the apartment and begins firing at the cops. Lil J witnessed Kelly gunned down by the police and then realized he is free to go home and can continue his life in a positive direction.

What do you think it means to be "Dope Sick" ?

Lil J is a 17 year old boy who lives in the projects that is in deep trouble with the law.Living in Harlem with his drug addicted mother. With no one to tell him whats wrong and right he falls very behind in school. Life is really hard for him.With no money or job he says hes "dope sick" and needs some cash real fast. He remembers that his friend Rico has a job offering to bring in alot of money but it includes drugs. Lil J feels somethings wrong while his friend Rico is seriously nervous. As they continue with the drug deal things go south.  As Rico reacts badly because of the dope they get into a shootout. One cop ends up dead, Lil J gets shot in the arm. As they go on the run Rico ends up getting caught meanwhile Lil J hides in an abandon drug house. 

If your mother wasn't in the best state of mind , would you work harder to have a better life and show her you want to succeed. Or would you make dumb choices like Lil J and possibly end up like his mother ?

Thirty three year old police officer Anthony Gaffione was shot on Harlems east side during an undercover drug bust. One suspect ,19 year old Rico Brown has been captured and put under arrest. The shooter has been identified as 17 year old Jeremy Dance otherwise known as "Lil J". Rico and Lil J are a drug dealing duo growing up in the Bronx. With money short right now they are looking for some quick ways to make some cash...
